ematch between former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw and top contender Raphael Assuncao is in the works for July's landmark event, UFC 200. The news was announced on Wednesday's UFC Tonight. According to Ariel Helwani, Dillashaw hasn't yet accepted the bout, but "probably" will.
Dillashaw and Assuncao fought at UFC Fight Night 29 in October 2013. The Brazilian won by split decision.
After that loss, Dillashaw (12-3) picked up four straight wins, including a massive upset TKO over then-titleholder Renan Barao in the main event of UFC 173, in April 2014, to become the bantamweight champion. He defended his title twice against Joe Soto and Barao in a rematch, before falling to Dominick Cruzearlier this year.
Assuncao (23-4) has been sidelined with injuries since a late 2014 decision win over Bryan Caraway. Prior to that, he picked up a unanimous decision victory over prospect Pedro Munhoz at UFC 170 in February 2014.
It is expected that the bout will be a part of the FS1 preliminary card.
UFC 200 takes place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 9. In the main event, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier rematches interim champ Jon Jones. Also on the card, women's bantamweight championMiesha Tate defends against Amanda Nunes, and Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar square off for the interim featherweight belt.
