SPORT DADDY NEWS GOLF

Former Corona Santiago golfer Aaron Wise’s recent run of success continued this week when he qualified for the U.S. Open.
Wise won the 36-hole sectional qualifier in Vancouver, Wash., with a 9-under-par 135 at Royal Oaks Country Club. That performance advanced him to the 116th U.S. Open on June 16-19 at Oakmont (Pa.) Country Club.
Wise won the section by two strokes in what served as his professional debut.
Last week, Wise became the first University of Oregon player to win an NCAA individual title as the Ducks won the Division 1 national championship on their home course of Eugene Country Club.

Wise shot 30 on the back nine of the first round at Royal Oaks to put himself in contention. Between the two rounds, he totaled 14 birdies, including a 50-foot putt on the 13th.
