Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid: A derby to end all derbies>>>>

SPORT DADDY NEWS SPORT

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid head into the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday night, to play a derby of epic proportions and to decide who will be crowned Champions League winners.

Los Blancos have a long and successful history in the competition but the Rojiblancos have emerged as a force to be reckoned with in recent years.

After Saturday night, one side will add their name to the impressive list of Spanish sides which have conquered Europe.

The Milan final is being held 60 years after the very first European Cup, the forerunner to the Champions League, which Real won.

Alfredo Di Stefano, who played in the final, has often said that no-one thought it would become the most coveted trophy in Europe and one of the most prestigious in world football.

He was also involved in the next four finals which his team won to kick-start the competition with five consecutive victories by a single club.

The European Cup owes a lot to Real but they too owe a lot to this great tournament as their prestige has grown because of their special relationship with the trophy.

If Zinedine Zidane's side have been a constant in the life of the Champions League by winning 10 out of the 13 finals they have played, their opponents on Saturday are one of the emerging forces in the tournament.

They will be playing their second final in three seasons, a sign of their effectiveness and their new position among the European elite.

Diego Simeone's side will want to rewrite history and wipe out the memory of the 2014 final, when Sergio Ramos scored a last-minute goal to equalise and allow Real to take the spoils in extra time.

Two years have passed and both teams have made great changes.

The structure of both is very similar and they will be going into the game with their top players in good condition.

Unlike last time when Los Colchoneros' key player Diego Costa had to be taken off after a few minutes.

It is difficult to decide who will win as Real make few mistakes while Atleti are quick to pounce on any errors and can hold on to a win by a small margin.

For Atletico, one goal is the equivalent of about three to their opponents.

But for now, the only thing that matters is to stay focused and win the most important derby of them all.
