Jorge Valdano has warned that Atletico Madrid will be looking for revengewhen they face his old side Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Los Blancos saw off the challenge of Manchester City on Wednesday night to advance into what will be the club's 14th European Cup final where they will meet local rivals Atletico Madrid, just as they did two years ago.
Having come so close to winning their first Champions League title in Lisbon, Valdano has warned that Los Rojiblancos will be seeking revenge at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on May 28.
"For the first time in history, two years ago, two teams from the same city met in a final," said the Argentine. "It will be the second time it happens, with the same characters, and in the only city with two teams who are champions of Europe, Inter and Milan. Curiosities of history."
"The final in Lisbon will give us a lot to talk, because the focus will be Atletico in the process of revenge."
Valdano, who played for Los Blancos between 1984 and 1987, as well as having coached the side for two years from 1994 to 1996, also spoke on the development of Gareth Bale since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
"Bale is emerging as one of the best headers of the ball in world football," he said. "I remember [Elias] Figueroa, the best player in the history of Chile, who could not head, but when he moved to Uruguay he focused and eventually became at home heading the ball."
Before the matter of the Champions League is resolved, both Madrid sides will be looking to overhaul leaders Barcelona with just two games remaining in the La Liga season.
