According to Brian Hamacher of NBC 6 in Miami, Gordon allegedly struck his girlfriend and "kicked a car door, which hit [an] officer." An eyewitness reported seeing a man punching a woman and pushing her out of an SUV. Gordon's girlfriend said she was driving him to his car when the incident occurred. After arriving at Gordon's car, officers searched it and found an AR-15 rifle and about 13 grams of marijuana. The report stated Gordon intended to use the rifle at a local nightclub.
Gordon's girlfriend told officers he has had his mental health evaluated three times in the past year under a law called the Baker Act, per Porter:
That law allows law enforcement officials, judges, physicians and mental health professionals to institutionalize someone without their permission for up to 72 hours if they believe the individual has a mental illness or could do harm to themselves or others, and refuses to be examined voluntarily or is unable to understand the need for an exam.

The Oakland Raiders selected Gordon in the sixth round of the 2011 draft at No. 181 overall, and he played for four teams over five years. Gordon last played for the Denver Broncos in 2015.
