Donald Cerrone is all about chasing that paper. And it sounds like he isn't too happy with where he's at in the race.
After being read a list of his impressive accomplishments in the UFC, "Cowboy" slammed the promotion -- with a smirk on his face -- about how much he's getting compensated. Just a few hours earlier Saturday, Cerrone had walked over welterweight stalwart Patrick Cote en route to one of his most impressive wins.
"God, that all sounds nice," Cerrone said at the UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Thompson post-fight press conference. "According to my pay, I don't mean sh*t to the UFC. But we'll see. Maybe I'll talk to [UFC president] Dana [White] after this and see if we can figure that out."
Cerrone (30-7, 1 NC) beat Cote in the co-main event of the card by third-round TKO. It was only the second fight in the UFC at welterweight for "Cowboy" and he made moving up look absolutely seamless. He dominated every round against Cote, who fought much of his career at middleweight, dropped him in the second and rocked him multiple times in the third.
The finish was good enough for a $50,000 bonus for Performance of the Night. Cerrone, 33, has 17 fight-night bonuses in the UFC and WEC.
In his last fight, Cerrone made $79,000 to show and another $79,000 to win. "Cowboy" beat Alex Oliveira by first-round submission in that bout, which was a main event at UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh back in February. He also won a $50K bonus for Performance of the Night against Oliveira.
While he looked sensational at 170 pounds, Cerrone said he is not ruling out returning to 155. He said Saturday night that he'd like to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov or Nate Diaz and the weight class doesn't matter.
"I like 55, I like 70," Cerrone said. "Either way. Whatever the fastest trip to the next fight is. So if it's 55 or 70, that's the route I'm going."
Cerrone also said right after the fight that he'd like to compete at UFC 200 in three weeks.
Finishes, fight-night bonuses and wanting to fight again as soon as possible. That's Cowboy 101.
