Barcelona wary of last-minute Neymar snub>>>

BarcelonaClub director in Brazil to finalise contract renewal

In hoping to avoid last minute hitches in Neymar's contract renewal with the La Liga champions, Barcelona are growing increasingly confident that they will hold off rivals offers, whether they come from Paris, Madrid, or Manchester.

They know that the player is happy playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at the Camp Nou, but are taking nothing for granted until the Brazilian puts pen to paper.

The forward's father has eased concerns with comments at the weekend in which he insisted that his son would be going nowhere, yet those within the club will wait until the ink dries on the contract before celebrating.

"I think the probability of [Neymar going to Real Madrid] is zero," the player's father said in an interview with Fox Brazil.

Those in the club's hierarchy are relaxed about the situation, but continue to work on completing the extension given that the links with Paris Saint-Germain - who could pay his €190 million release clause and double his salary to €50m per year - have yet to die down, along with similar interest from Manchester City.

In order to monitor the latest developments and to provide a direct link between the president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the player, club director Raul Sanllehi has been in Brazil since June 16 to liaise with the player's entourage and keep tabs on any interest from other clubs.

"With the renewal of [Sergio] Busquets, which also was long and complex, we were in constant contact with his representative Josep Maria Orobitg, but with Neymar that possibility doesn't exist because he is in Brazil, which is why Sanllehi fulfils that role," sources at the club informed MARCA.

The Catalan club will have to weather the storm for a few more days as they want to include the renewal in the 2016/17 economic year in order to avoid a negative balance for the current season and, as such, they must wait until July 1.

The day before that, Bartomeu will hold a press conference, at which updates on the negotiations are expected.
